Arches, architectural motif of new Belmont Park race track, are structurally deceptive; they are not arches but Tees, with cantilevered arms abutting at apex of each arch; red brick wall with series of white side-by-side arches, and modern curtain wall of brick with block backup are used; 60 ft high and 22 ft wide, arches are set 30 ft c to c; to prevent cracking, Tees are separated at crown of arches by 1/2-in. expansion joint filled with neoprene; construction procedure, materials and architectural treatment.
