Hydraulic performance of penstock trifurcations
Pressure distributions and energy losses were obtained in air tunnel for following penstock trifurcations -- two-wye arrangement, two types of plug-funnel proposal, and abrupt junction; model tests were made for three operating conditions with one branch, two branches, and all three branches flowing; plug-funnel trifurcation in which central portion is recessed was found to be hydraulically better than other models tested when all three branches were flowing; boundary geometry provided smooth entry into all three branches; double wye was, however, superior to all other types when only one branch was flowing.
