How by using hydrodynamic analogy between torsion of uniform bar with arbitrary cross-section and viscous flow through channel of same shape, flow rate through any channel may be predicted; experimental support for concepts proposed has been furnished from extensive tests; validity of mean hydraulic radius concept led to development of scientific outflow instrument capable of predicting drainage ability of road surfaces subjected to pneumatic tire traffic.
