Original water bound macadam with Bath stone pitching as base disintegrated and necessitated reconstruction; new road is of 8 in. reinforced concrete tamped by hand and mechanical compactors; data on strength tests; foot paths were reconstructed with 1/2 in. cold asphalt, on 1 3/4 in. bituminous tarmacadam base coat with hardcore foundation; cost covering surface drainage, road and carpeting works, amounted to approximately £26,000 for length of 1,300 yd.
