Expansion joint practice in highway construction
Explanation of satisfactory behavior of concrete roads with little or no provision for expansion; using data from Minnesota experimental project where expansion joints were 5260 ft apart, compressive stress that developed due to 83 F rise in temperature of concrete is only 628 psi; it is concluded that in pavements with properly spaced contraction joints, expansion joints may be eliminated.
