Partial reconstruction of river Wye bridge
Reconstruction now nearing completion involves renewal of superstructure of three 100-ft land spans of Brunel railroad bridge at Chepstow, built in 1852; in new spans, main girders are not continuous, though through-type construction, dictated by pier cylinders, has been retained, with main girders at same centers as old ones; decking consists of flat steel plating on stringers and cross girders and is protected with standard waterproofing. (see also Engineering v 166 n 4314 Oct 1 1948 p 321)
