Question of applying to steel structures technique similar to concrete prestressing; tests on beams show that, to exploit residual stresses with view to delay plastic flow, is very difficult; it has only been possible to obtain positive results by mechanical prestressing calling for external forces; as combined steel-concrete construction is only made possible by welding, welders should follow with interest evolution of technique.
