Use of fused silica in gas-fire-radiant bodies
Aims were to study behavior of fused silica when used as main constituent in bodies for casting and pressing, to discover whether inorganic polymer bonds could replace conventional clay bonds, and to apply information obtained to production of gas-fire radiant box element; bodies of slip-cast 100% fused silica fired at 950, 1250, 1200 and 1300 C were unsatisfactory; for this type of body it appears firing temperature should not be below 1000 to 1050 C and not above 1100 to 1150 C; remainder of bodies appear to be promising, but final judgment will have to await field trials.
