Baffle-pier experiments on models of Pit River Dams
See reference to original article in Engineering Index 1927, p. 257, under the heading, Dams -- Model Experiments. n 3 Mar 1928 p 857-869, 8 figs.: Results of series of tests for Bull Run dam now under construction for water supply of Portland, Ore., are presented. Apr 1928 n 4 p 1225-1233, 4 figs.: Data relative to baffle piers at toe of high overfall dams; experiments made at hydraulic laboratory of Cornell University indicated that relative height of tail water is of great, even of controlling, importance. May 1928 n 5 p 1549-1560, 7 figs.: Example of scour below dams is shown at Halligan Dam, North Fork of Cache la Poudre River; after period of about 18 years of service there appears to be no scour below this dam. Aug n 6 1928 p 1817-1819, 6 figs.: Professor Rehbock has invented device called "Zahnschwelle," or "Notched Sill," which is placed at down-stream end of apron for sole purpose of establishing natural flow conditions immediately below; in making model studies, first step, and most important one, is proper choice of model scale.
