Economic advantages of reinforced-concrete caissons
In widening of bridge over Danube River between Vienna and Floridsdorf, foundation of the piles was made by means of caissons constructed partly of iron and partly of reinforced concrete. Comparison of the two construction types showed that reinforced-concrete caisson was from 40 to 60 per cent cheaper than iron and displayed no noticeable defects.
