Construction of Canadian diversion canal
Project completed at site of large hydroelectric development at Chute-a-Caron, on Saguenay River, Quebec; canal was designed to have capacity of 50,000 cusecs at velocity of 21.25 ft. per sec.; hydraulic studies of tailrace were carried out simultaneously with those of diversion canal; impracticability of constructing ordinary type of rock-filled timber crib cofferdam in deep section under adverse flow conditions led to use of "obelisk."
