Improved procedure for proportioning mixes of structural lightweight concrete
Mix proportioning procedures of existing ACI Standard 613A-59 were used as basis for comparison in investigation; procedure utilizes concept of "specific gravity factor" as aggregate weight-to-volume ratio; specific gravity factor is found by trial mix procedure; theoretical analysis indicates that this factor can be more precisely determined directly, by simple pycnometer procedures using aggregate alone; theoretical considerations were confirmed by pycnometer tests and trial mixes containing number of different light weight aggregates in which moisture contents of fine and coarse fractions varied.
