Some investigations into use of sugar as admixture to concrete
Small quantities of sugar (up to 0.25% by weight of cement) were added to portland cement concrete mixes to determine effect on various concrete properties; investigations covered wide range of cement composition and mix proportions, and showed that sugar is water-reducing, set-retarding admixture similar in character to many commercial retarders; it was found that this amount of sugar increased strength of concrete, both in compression and flexure, and gave more workable mix.
