Description of fabrication and erection of 18 welded steel bridges in 13 1/2-mi stretch of Preston to Lancaster roadway; noteworthy is 1300 ft long 11 span curved viaduct of welded box girder construction; piers comprise twin fabricated 1 in. thick box columns; deck is three-cell welded box girder 14×8 ft; piers were entirely shop fabricated while spine girder diaphragms and web plates with stiffeners and access holes were shop formed; site welding used CO2 semiautomatic process at 600 amp.
