Design of breakwater for port of Cuddalore
Hydraulic model tests carried out to study designs of various types of breakwaters considered for Port of Cuddalore, India, are described; port lies in region of intense cyclonic storms, and depths at proposed breakwater were such that storm waves would break on breakwater instead of undergoing complete reflection; composite-type breakwater with bulkhead was suggested to support rubble mound on channel side and prevent its settlement due to scour in navigation channel during freshets and to provide sufficiently wide channel in second stage of development.
