Air conditioning matches laboratory loads
New type of mechanical system for laboratories in medical center at Duke University is used to match fluctuating exhaust air and heat load requirements of this type of building; comparison of variable volume single duct reheat, double duct constant volume and single duct variable volume and room fan coil unit systems was made and analyzed to select most suitable; floor structure is of prestressed channel slabs spanning between outside walls and mechanical shaft in center of each laboratory block; vertical piping to laboratory benches is set in spaces left between channel slabs.
