Experiments were conducted employing models having arches similar to those found underground, and of varying radii of curvature and crown thicknesses; they were directed to study desirability and effects of, and design procedure for, arched mine roofs; models for this series of experiments were prepared from ferruginous shale and were about 8 1/2 in. long and 1 in. wide.
