Special method of prestressed support involves placing of high tensile steel cables in excavation hanging wall; cables are tensioned by hydraulic jack and load imparted to them transmitted to surrounding rock; this returns it to state of partial triaxial compression and makes it self-supporting; method, which provides simple and safe way of roofing and supporting hanging in large underground chambers, is particularly suited to bad ground conditions; its load carrying capacity is far greater than those of conventional methods.
