Recent cases in which model studies relating to bridge placement problems and works connected therewith were successfully applied in South Africa; first relates to determination of best site for proposed national road bridge over Umfolozi River at Mtubatuba in Natal; second investigation pertains to river engineering problem that arose in Transvaal after building of bridge over Notchwan River near Pougola, when flood waters broke through dyke and followed course of old river bed.
