Radial drainage oedometer for laminated clays
Model sand drain test was conducted for assessment of horizontal coefficient of consolidation of laminated soils; new oedometer is described in which vertical drainage is prevented and radial drainage only is allowed to axial sand drain; influence of drain diameter and sand density on compressibility and consolidation rate of clay are investigated; it is shown that drains of small relative diameter, i.e., less than 5% of oedometer diameter, have negligible influence in soil parameters measured in test.
