Footbridge with spiral ramps for atherstone by-pass
Design features and construction of portal frame footbridge spanning dual roadways with spiral ramps connected at portal knees where expansion could take place; footpath loading for both portal frame and ramps was taken at 100 psf; steel reinforcement was used throughout with maximum stress of 18,000 psi while maximum concrete stresses were under 1400 psi; portal legs were designed to curved taper in both axes so that shape could be repeated for ramp columns and formwork standardized; to produce as light colored concrete finish without using white cement, silver sand was specified.
