Flow measurements at columbia river power plants
Current meter techniques for measuring quantity of water in convergent passages of hydraulic turbine intake structures are presented; techniques are applied to large discharges as found in hydroelectric plants with Kaplan and Francis turbines; problems of velocity field distortion, calibration of instruments, and resolution of velocity component are examined; flows measured by Gibson method and by U S Geological Survey gage are compared; good correlation was obtained because of excellent measuring sections under steady-state conditions.
