Radiography of cast high explosives
Radiographic technique and sensitivity determinations were studied for cast high explosives 2 to 17 in. thick; sensitivities of less than 1% were obtained at all thicknesses; exposure factors to compensate for attenuation by steel walls, 1/8 to 3/4 in. thick, are presented; half value layers and attenuation coefficients were determined for 5 common explosive materials; inert materials for use as penetrameters were investigated and nylon was found to be satisfactory substitute for cast explosive; reference radiographs illustrating degrees of severity of 9 different casting defects were compiled.
