Microseismic forecasting of excavation failures
Success of microseismic detectors, now used to determine stability of surface excavations, is based on fact that most rocks and soils under strain make subaudible noises; various uses in underground work of Seismitron detector developed several years ago and consisting of sealed probe, containing quartz crystal pickup, amplifier, and set of earphones; value of instrument for surface work.
