Shear and normal stresses in straight concrete dams
Expressions are derived for stresses at any point in dam and are presented in form which makes them extremely simple to use in actual stress determinations; treatment takes into account transmission of part of horizontal loads to foundation by beam action and results are specially suitable for determination of stress inside dam making use of boundary stresses arrived at by any trial load analysis already completed; expressions are not applicable to dams curved in plan.
