Champlain Bridge in Montreal
Designed to relieve traffic congestion on existing 3 bridges over St. Lawrence at Montreal, recently completed Champlain Bridge connects Montreal with South shore by way of Nun's Island; total length is 2 3/4 mi of which 3000 ft constitute roadway across Nun's Island; high level cantilever steel bridge with suspended central span crosses St. Lawrence Seaway; because of great width of roadway (38 ft in each direction), bridge is 3-truss design; approaches, as well as bridge from Island of Montreal to Nun's Island, are of precast prestressed concrete.
