Replenishment of aquifers intersected by streams
Interrelation between surface water and groundwater is studied for certain aquifers that are intersected by streams and subjected to water withdrawal by trenches or wells and where presence of relatively thin clayey lenses creates flow conditions similar to those of leaky aquifers; estimated yield of proposed groundwater recharge project near Princeton, NJ, is numerically evaluated; mathematical model is derived from idealized field conditions, and flow equations are solved by means of Green's functions; mathematical techniques are extended to solve problem of flow to group of wells in leaky aquifers with various boundary conditions.
