Effect of width of specimen on results of notch impact tests
In tests on 6 steels of widely varying toughness, 5 types of specimen were used, each in 4 widths of 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 mm; in all cases, transition temperature became increasingly lower with decrease in specimen width; rating of steels by transition temperature remained same regardless of specimen used.
