Interceptor route chosen to stay in rock formations
Interceptor and outfall tunnel portion of work project undertaken by City of Ottawa to combat serious pollution of Ottawa River; project involved 7.2 mi of large sewer in tunnel to intercept raw sewage being discharge from 23 outlets from Ontario side of river; estimates of cost for tunneling in rock, as compared to till and clay, indicated it would be advantageous to locate route as nearly all in rock as possible.
