Laminar damping of oscillatory waves
Shearing stresses exerted on smooth horizontal bottom by progressive, shallow-water waves are investigated in laminar regime; average surface resistance and amplitude attenuation coefficients are derived from linearized viscous equations of motion; comparison of former coefficients with results of experiments shows experimentul surface resistance to far exceed theoretical; application of results to conduct and interpretation of model studies involving shoaling shallow-water waves is described; results are presented in form convenient for this use.
