Theory developed indicating that sliding surface is composed of plane and circular cylinders that intersect symmetrical axis of foundation and ground level at angle adequate to demands of statics; distribution of stresses acting on sliding surface is determined from Koetter equation; method is shown to be in good conformity with Muhs' results obtained from tests conducted in place; use of method for granular soils and soils that have little cohesion.
