Strength of concrete under combined tensile and compressive stress
Experimental study by loading hollow concrete cylinders to failure; circumferential tension and axial compression was produced by end loading in conventional testing machine; compressive and tensile strengths were reduced in presence of orthogonal stress of opposite sense; test results are presented in terms of principal stresses and octahedral normal and shearing stresses.
