Design of bridge across River Thur to be approximately 1000 ft long, with roadway 59 ft wide; during building of bridge provision had to be made for flood water flow of 14 cusecs; various competitive designs are analyzed and reasons given for choice of continuous beam structure in prestressed concrete over four bays; end supports are movable and intermediate piers are built in foundation and pin jointed at top.
