Geologic research at straight creek tunnel site, Colorado
Research project to use geology and geophysics for prediction of geologic conditions to reduce cost of construction is described; particular attention was given to percentage of different rock types, attitude of foliation of rock, and attitude and spacing of faults and joints; geologic investigations were supported by geophysical logging of drill holes, including resistivity and gamma-ray density, by seismic profiles at surface run parallel and at right angles to tunnel line; statistical model of geology at tunnel level was constructed.
