Effect of confining pressure on compression parallel-to-grain strength of small clear wood specimens
Wood foundation piles normally used under conditions of confining lateral pressure from soil in which they are imbedded, and this pressure may have effect on compression parallel-to-grain strength of piles; study was conducted to evaluate effect of this pressure on compression-parallel strength of small clear specimens of Douglas-fir and red oak; to simulate earth pressure, oil pressures of 50 and 100 psi were used; no effect was found on strength of two species at either pressure.
