Bond studies on hot dip galvanized reinforcement in concrete
Bond strengths of reinforcing bars were investigated in short-time tests; influence of chromate content in cement, chromate admixture to fresh concrete, and chromatizing of galvanized bars were studied in pullout tests and tests of reactivity of zinc coating in concrete; three brands of Norwegian portland cement, two of which had relatively low chromate content, were tested; no simple relation between chromate content in cement and bond reduction and reactivity of zinc coating could be stated; chromate addition to fresh concrete and especially chromatizing of galvanized bars eliminated reduction in bond strength.
