Effect of confining reinforcement on ductility of reinforced concrete beams
Evaluation of effects of various types of confining reinforcement (helices, plane and tubular meshes, and rectangular ties) on static stressstrain characteristics of rectangular concrete prisms tested in uniaxial compression; results of tests determine effectiveness of using selected confining reinforcement in compressive zone of reinforced concrete flexural members to increase their ultimate strength and ductility; one hundred eighteen 4×4×12-in. concrete prisms were cast and tested; ability of confining reinforcement to increase ultimate strain capacity and ductility of rectangular concrete prisms in uniaxial compression was clearly demonstrated by results of these tests.
