When prismatic members are sliced longitudinally for purpose of measuring residual stresses, curvature often develops in strip; test described includes equations required for data reduction, analysis of error involved in neglecting varying amounts of curvatures, and precision required in measurements; technique was applied to structural columns made from hollow rectangular tubes with satisfactory results.
