Structural stability of MAR-M 509, cobalt-base superalloy
Purpose of investigation was to determine phases present in alloy developed by Martin Metals Corp for use at elevated temperatures, in as-cast condition, as well as those that form after prolonged exposure at elevated temperature; microstructures of experimental alloys were studied by optical microscopy, thin-foil transmission electron microscopy and diffraction, X-ray diffraction analysis of extracted particles, and electron microprobe analysis; effect of prolonged exposure at elevated temperature on room-temperature mechanical properties of alloy was also evaluated.
