Investigation of concrete piles under varying conditions in sea-water
To examine variations in durability of different types of concrete with regard to seawater and frost, concrete piles were stored in tidal zone for past 27 yr; test specimens were exposed to conditions similar to those found in fairly hard coast climate by Norwegian standards; 42 reinforced pillars 20×20×230 cm were made, 38 were cast in laboratory and given special curing, while other four were concreted in field; nine types of cement with various mineral contents were examined and tests also included aggregates of two different gradings; correlation between diminishing content of C3A in cements and respective durability of concrete is shown.
