Great hole at dungeness
Notes on foundations for CEGB Dungeness B nuclear power station; site is composed of shingle scoured from beaches, lying to depth of 120 ft above stiff clay of Hastings beds; groundwater is 8 ft below surface, and sheet steel pile curtain was driven as preliminary to dewatering; main foundation is 11-ft thick reinforced concrete raft for two reactors; cylindrical pressure vessel about 95 ft OD and 100 ft high is encircled by layers of vertical cables interleaved with circumferential prestressing cables at areas of hoop stress concentration; notes on reactor, etc.
