World's largest prestressed concrete pipes in New Zealand hydro electric scheme
Six 17 ft 6 in. ID prestressed concrete penstocks designed to carry water from concrete gravity intake dam to drive turbines at Benmore power plant are described; each penstock is 424 ft long and precast in 8 ft lengths weighing 58 tons; walls are 1 ft 6 in. thick, giving OD of 20 ft 6 in.; in all, 318 units will be required, and production is proceeding at rate of one per day.
