Compression and impact tests for steel acceptance proposed
Standard tests for acceptance of structural steel do not measure compressive yield or notch sensitivity of material at low temperatures; research has shown that accurate measure of these mechanical properties is essential if failures are to be avoided; author recommends development of new rapid and automatic tests to ensure performance of steel in economically designed structures.
