Illustrated description of device for taking continuous soil cores of great length; principle is to insulate core from sampler wall by means of metal foils; as sampler is driven down, foils are fed into core through horizontal slot in inner wall; thus foils not only protect core against sliding resistance due to sampler wall, but also keep thickness and structure of each soil layer unchanged; report on tests.
