Measurement and analysis of deformation around deep, hard-rock excavations
Results of measurements of displacement in rock mass around 2 South African gold mines, one extensively worked and one relatively new; measurements of strata movement patterns in 2 different environments are similar, and, in both cases, are in agreement with displacements calculated from elastic theory; in both calculations same values of elastic constants; determined from laboratory tests on small specimens of rock, were used.
