Hydroelectric development of Ossau Valley
Underground power plant at Geteu supplying current to French National Railways is equipped with turbogenerators fed by waters coming from cascade of higher-level hydraulic plants; work on lowering groundwater level and on construction of water-tight, reinforced concrete building driven about 12 m deep into water-bearing alluvium is described; 30 pumps with total capacity of 1500 cu m/hr were used for drainage; despite very difficult conditions, building was completed 18 mo after drilling of first filtering well.
