Theory for design of multi-hinged segmental ring
Theory for designing segmental lining of circular shield-driven tunnel is dealt with; multi-hinged segmental ring with more than 3 hinges is shown to be unstable structure, and it is shown that when ring is under ground, it deforms mainly by link motion between segments, which transforms unstable structure under external load acting as active earth pressure and its reaction acting as passive earth pressure; reactions acting on segments surrounded by soil may be replaced by stress of spring set at each hinge of ring.
