Behavior of Howe, Pratt, and Warren trusses
Deflections of regular trusses formed from repeated modules (panels) are analyzed using finite-difference calculus; expressions used are in general algebraic form; solutions for simply supported and cantilever trusses under action of point, uniform, and linearly varying loads are given in terms of polynomials; it is shown that by using Taylor's expansion, finite-difference equations reduce approximately to differential equation for bending and shear of analogous beam; analogous beam solutions are compared with given solutions showing that analogy is satisfactory.
