In experimental deoxidation of electric furnace steel with briquettes consisting of ferrocerium with sheath of silico-calcium and aluminum, cerium was more efficiently used for combining sulfur and inoculating metal than when same deoxidizing agents were introduced by scattering them; metal contained smallest amount of inclusions when three amounts introduced were 1.4, 1.0 and 0.3 kg/ton of steel, respectively; primary products of deoxidation were liquid and absorbed solid particles of oxides and sulfides of cerium which formed later.
