New Grenoble Sport Palace; 157×155 m building houses 60×30 m ice skating rink transformable into field for other sports; offices, various services, and power plants are located under 11,000-seat grandstands; roof consists of system of two simultaneously superposed, intersecting 65 and 95 m span cantilever vaults; each vault is supported on two abutments founded on twelve 1 to 24 m diam deep piles; vaults use self-supporting thin double shells in reinforced concrete braced by spandrels; wood and aluminum walls are suspended from grandstand framework.
